Create a Small Bathroom Interior That Everyone Will Love

Simple changes can transform any toilet interior
No longer are we expected to go outside and powder our nose, and thank goodness for that (sorry for that mental image). The history of our toilet or small bathroom, as it is commonly known today, has transformed from an outside outhouse to the once-popular, clinical and shall we say very sanitary white-tiled interior, which we know some of us do still love, to a place where we can at last experiment and feel free to decorate, exactly how we like.
We are seeing more and more daring and interesting small bathrooms and we love it. No longer are we afraid to transform a space with color, textures, and patterns. We spend short periods of time in our small bathrooms on a regular daily basis, so why can we not add some color here too? No longer are we restricted on keeping a plain, sterile and functional space, instead, we can now experiment with how we would wish instead for our bathroom to look. In this post, we share some examples of how wallpapers can make a simple transformation in any small bathroom.
Try something bold
We were super excited to do a collaboration with Helen for her guest toilet renovation that was wonderfully transformed from a tiny cloakroom to this tropical oasis. Everything has been designed magnificently, from the space, the materials and even the colors that match each other perfectly. We love the small knick-knacks on the shelf, the golden details, green wooden paneling, and our wallpaper Cuba Jungle which created the last finishing touch. This wallpaper has lifted every element in the room.
The perfect wallpaper for a small dilemma
Lauren who is an American stylist, has created a beautiful accent wall in her and her family's upstairs bathroom, and the decision to choose our wallpaper design Bellewood certainly helped with their dilemma of choosing a design that fitted not only their quaint 1930’s cottage but also their different styles: Lauren wanted a whimsical look and her husband wanted a modern look. We think their choice of bathroom wallpaper coordinated flawlessly.
Create a place of tranquility
Can wallpaper and tiles match? Well, we think so, and this interior certainly proves that. Our forest wallpaper Misty Fir Forest makes an excellent and impactful addition in this decadent bathroom. Just imagine the views through the double doors whilst relaxing in the bath.
Impressive statement walls
We can’t get enough of this restroom at the restaurant Balthazar in Borås, having tiled halfway up the wall to create a “chair rail” effect, the shiny green tiles with fishbone design combined with our wallpaper Jungle Land, Color certainly contributes a lovely dose of creativity to the walls. The statement mirror forms the illusion of extra light and space and the brass details such as taps, rails, and finishes complete this sumptuously majestic interior.
We love the idea of a small bathroom that brings a smile to people’s faces, that creates warmth, or simply somewhere that transports us to a place of tranquility and a place to relax. That’s what creating a home is all about, to combine not only our own personalities but also perhaps a mixture. Whatever your interior style is modern, retro, traditional or contemporary, there will be wallpapers for you to choose from for your small bathroom, whether you wish for bolder colors for an impactful statement or softer designs for a soft but intimate introduction.
Plants that don’t require that much light
Here's a list of the best plants that don’t require too much maintenance and very little light, since of course – you can’t have plants in a room with no light unless you have a solar light for your flowers. Pick one of these below and add some greenery to your small bathroom.
- Spider plant – This plant is not only sturdy but also very pretty, and has been rated by NASA themselves for cleaning the air
- Lucky bamboo
- Aspidistra elatior (the cast iron plant) – great for notorious plant killers Chinese evergreen
- Mother-In-Law Tongue
- Zamioculcas zamiifolia (also known as the ZZ plant or eternity plant)
- Peperomia (known as the radiator)
- Calathea Burle Marxii
- Ivy (all types) – great air-purifying plant, NASA rates this plant as one of the best plants for keeping the air free from mold and bacteria
