How Australia Inspired Ayers Rock

The Ayers Rock pattern, now rightfully called its native name Uluru, was created by Zandra Rhodes during her first visit to the center of Australia in 1973. She was traveling for a large publicity campaign for her textile designs for Selkers Silks and Australian Women’s Weekly. She drew this amazing rock with the spiky spinifex grass in the foreground. The pattern was first used for gorgeous square cloaks in wool felt and classic one sided chiffon dresses that have become immortalised by Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Bacall.
